This map earns the GMD Seal of Approval!

I was very well updated on this map throughout it's creation. I had been talking to ole Jher about it for quite some time and frankly, I didn't think I would really like it. Gloom 2 was a good map and I didn't see how anyone could make it better. Jherax quickly, and effectively took Gloom2 and completely twisted it into his own mapping form for an end result that was quite different from it's parent map. I was quite impressed with Gloom2 after I joined one of the first onecall games on it.

If I didn't make it clear enough on the bar to the left about how good the textures were done let me restate: The textures here are perfect. You can quote me on that. As a matter of fact, when it comes to eye candy on this map there is nothing bad to be said. I love Jherax's version of Gloom 2 and I now play it more than the original Gloom 2. The only area that's bothered me is Jherax's choice of lighting. Jherax made some very good arguments as to why texture lighting is more realistic than entity lighting. There's one thing, however, that I don't like about texture lighting. The fact is that spiders are harder to see under texture based lighting. One day I might go into the technical specifications of this fact but not during this review. Other than the choice of lighting (which might I add is very easy to overloook), this was a very well made map.

Gameplay here is different than that of Gloom 2. We all know the room that 60% of all battles occurs in on both Gloom2 and Gloom2SE. The long room that's usually camped by humans. What I like about the way Jherax built his map is that he solved a lot of the camping problems by adding fast opening doors, an alternate route to the human base, and making this entire room more spider friendly. You'll find that this room is camped a lot less often on G2SE than it is on Gloom2. Other than this change, however, game play remains quite the same as it was on Gloom2 in my opinion. This is a good thing as Gloom2 has provided everyone with some very long and very intersting games. I think we can all look forward to more good games on Gloom2's child map, G2SE.

Textures
Cube Cube Cube Cube

Comment: It's always a treat when textures are aligned PERFECTLY. Jherax's textures are all aligned, and all well chosen, I love it, 4 cubes for j00.

Layout
Cube Cube Cube Cube

Comment: It's not an exact copy of Gloom 2 when it comes to layout, which is a very good thing, I like the new hallway and the new high route to the spider base, again 4 cubes, layout's good.

Creativity
Cube Cube Cube

Comment: Well it IS a copy, which is why I'm going to exclude this score from the overall score, but he changed it so much that if it wasn't for the name, people wouldn't know it was a revised version.

Overall
Cube Cube Cube Cube

Comment: It's another one of those maps that's going to go down in history for the GMD. Jherax's Gloom 2SE is right on the heels of Sul's Temple of Sseleman in the polls.
